General Information

This year has been a huge rollercoaster ride and we have had to make major adjustments to the event. That is why Destructive Steps 12 will focus on solo categories in the following:
  • Breaking
  • Open Styles
  • Hip Hop
  • Ladies Night (Female Only Open Style)

Our Live/In-person battle is held as per your normal battle pre-COVID in Sydney. Each category will be held one after another, from preliminaries all the way to finals, before we move on to the next category.

Our online battles are a separate battle which will be held via Instagram for the preliminaries from 2nd Nov to 3rd Dec. The Top16 onwards will be using pre-recorded videos premiering on the 12th Dec and 13th Dec.

Yes, you definitely can. They are separate events with different registration processes, and different schedules.

You will need to register yourself on our website and pay the registration fee. Once completed, you will receive an email confirmation of your registration.

Head to our Online Competitors Sections of the website. You will need to choose 1 song from the 3 listed for each category. Upload your 1min freestyle to your Instagram with the correct category hashtag. We will then comment to confirm your registration. Then our judges will choose their Top16 for each category.

The winner of each category (both live and online) will receive $200AUD, a certificate and a medal.

*International competitors need to have an active paypal account


Due to venue restrictions, we won’t be allowing audience members to watch this year. You will be able to watch all the battles (From Top16 onwards) on our livestreams each day on our Youtube Channel. We will be posting the livestream link closer to the date of the event.

Yes, we will be releasing Merch on our website to purchase from mid-Nov.

All Merch sales will be pre-paid and can be either picked up at the venue (ONLY on 5th and 6th Dec) or delivered Australia wide.

Covid-19 safety information

You must not attend the event or enter the venue if you are:

  • Have a confirmed case of COVID-19.
  • Required to self-isolate or quarantine.
  • Have come into contact with someone with COVID-19.
  • Have recently returned from overseas.
  • Have COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Are awaiting results of a COVID-19 test.

  • All attendees are required to sanitise their hands before entering and after exiting the venue.
  • All attendees must sign in via QR Code for contract tracing
  • Mask use is highly recommended.
  • Must comply with all COVID-19 Safety Protocols and Requirements of Destructive Steps Event and Venue.

All Destructive Steps Staff and volunteers will follow all protocols and requirements set up by HealthNSW and councils to ensure we minimise the spread of COVID-19.
